No question this is great news! Rolling out 1x service in some provinces soon after launching 95-A will give the Chinese a chance to compare its performance against the gsm-gprs alternative. If it provides better than 2x the capacity and 3x the speed, it could spell curtains for the gsm cabal - especially if w-cdma is still stuck in the "vaporware" stage. Why then would China Unicom install any new gsm systems? Can China Mobile be far behind?

One things's for sure......by putting competition in place, the Chinese will now be paying a lot less for whatever gsm equipment requirements they do have. With no apparent way in which to counter 1x on the horizon and, since the gsm gravy train is coming to an end, the guild is in quite a pickle. Couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of fellows <LOL>
