AMD late Tuesday said that NEC, Sony Corp. and Fujitsu will sell new notebook PCs based on its Athlon 4 and mobile AMD Duron processors.

NEC plans to use the 1GHz mobile AMD Athlon 4 processor in its "LaVie G" series, AMD said. An 800MHz mobile AMD Duron processor will also be featured in the "LaVie G" series, as well as the "LaVie L" series. These consumer systems are expected to ship later this month, AMD said.

Sony is announcing a "VAIO note" system for the Japanese consumer market that features a 700MHz mobile Duron processor, AMD said. Sony plans to ship these systems later this month, according to AMD.

Sony currently offers a VAIO FX210 notebook PC that incorporates the mobile AMD Duron processor in the U.S. retail channel.

Fujitsu is introducing a consumer notebook PC using an 800MHz mobile Duron processor in its "FMV-BIBLO" series notebook in Japan, AMD said. These consumer systems are expected to ship later this month, it added.

re: OT-Amazon On the other hand, the financial model of the company is quite compelling when you consider the achieved and sustainable inventory turns (20+). Turns in the 6-8 range is very good for brick and mortar retailers.

I think that if Amazon can turn profitable, it might be a very good long term investment. They have brand, excellent customer service, and leadership status in Internet retailing.

And Internet companies are so totally out of favor that a few of the good ones will turn out to be great investments.
