I'd love to see Daschle go on acting like he has been because we could beat him in South Dakota. One of my fondest memories of politics/history was watching Hanoi George McGovern concede THAT SAME SEAT in 1980. Unfortunately, I think Daschle knows better. You are right that things will get done: education, tort reform, possibly even Social Security privatization. Daschle learned how thin his ice was on the tax bill, and I haven't seen him make the same mistake twice. He will also be quieter (say prayer of thanks here). Unfortunately, also, that means you will see him for another six years. But most of that will be as minority leader: They just can't die or go crazy fast enough to beat the mega-trend...
