So John, I don't understand why, if CSCo is targeting the metro mkt as its big growth area, why is CSCO a no-show in the metro mkt? Would any of the csco bulls know?

Nortel Tops Urban Fiber-Optic Market
TORONTO (Reuters) - Nortel Networks Corp. (Toronto:NT.TO - news) (NYSE:NT - news), the world's largest telecommunications equipment supplier, took top spot in sales of high-capacity fiber-optic equipment used inside cities, according to research released on Thursday.

The report from telecoms research group Dell'Oro Group put Nortel at No. 1, with a 2 percent gain in sales in the first quarter from the fourth quarter.

The $183 million market, which grew 16 percent in the quarter, is forecast to hit 141 percent annual growth in 2001, Dell'Oro said.

ONI Systems Corp. (Nasdaq:ONIS - news) took second spot, but saw a sharp 50 percent gain in sales, while Ciena Corp. (Nasdaq:CIEN - news) placed third, despite a 3 percent sales drop.

The market for the fiber-optic networks, which transport data, voice and video traffic over multiple streams of light through glass fibers, has expanded each quarter over the past two years, Dell'Oro said.
