Pru puts in place new ratings system By Chris Kraeuter
Prudential Securities has officially changed its research ratings designations as "part of the firm's new strategy of objective research," according to a company statement. The new ratings: "buy" for a stock expected to appreciate a minimum of 20 percent based on total return, "sell" for a stock expected to fall a minimum of 20 percent and all other stocks will be labeled "hold." The ratings are granted under a 12-month time horizon. Also, industries will carry ratings of "market outperform," "perform," and "market underperform." The sector ratings will be gauged against the overall market. "We are streamlining our stock ratings systems and making plain our criteria," said Michael Shea, Equity Group president at Pru. "This ratings change underscores our commitment to offering investors clear, credible research."
