My patience totally depends on the stock.
I usually try to retrace 40% of the recent move.

Overvalued shorts I use stops and will start with larger positions.

Total pos stocks that I hate, no stops usually. I start 1/3 to 1/2 positions and add in 15-20% intervals and have no problem holding long term, unless the business is actually starts improving.
