Hi Zen I am also a Californian(Bay Area for 15 years) but I just sold my house and plan to move out of state. I feel that I will be able to buy back in a few years at about a minimum of a 25 % discount. France a very liberal country is almost exclusively on nuclear power. Interesting that Redford is in France blasting Bush about energy while he is using nuclear powered energy to do the bashing.
There is a price to be paid for arrogance as Bush has found out. Carter was arrogant and it cost him and paved the way for RR and ultimately his success led to the end of Democrat dominance of the political scene. The country wants a centrist policy. Clinton was very unpopular at first when he ran to the far left. Bush has just learned that lesson. You should listen to the 60 % of Californians who are telling you something. If the Democrats are perceived to be the cause of blackouts throughout the country they will pay for it big time.
I agree with you though that it would be nice to see Washington work for the best interest of the country not the party. It may be however that their is no home for centrists. That party which decides to run in the center which in my opinion means fiscally responsible but socially moderate will have the winning ticket. The religious right and the Sierra club are not winning tickets all though both groups have very strong personal convictions which are noble to some but repugnant to others.
Have a good one
Ron
