Farming is not unique in its booms in busts (reflecting good weather and bad, in farming) but it is unique in our dependance on it for survival.

This is still no excuse for government welfare to farmers. The fact is, folks are gonna eat or die, and as long as the ground grows weeds they are gonna eat. You ain’t talking about farming here, fella. You are talking government subsidized opulence. What the government effective does is hand out $70,000 Hummers to everyone when in fact bikes would do just fine.

It is very strange to talk to conservatives who don't honor "the backbone of America, the family farmer". Strange turn of events.

Well, I don’t honor no danged body just because they are danged farmers. I honor folks based on their own danged merits. If a guy sits on his danged tractor and can’t make a living on his own, and is too danged dumb to change so that he can make a living on his own, without depending on the danged government for his sustenance, then I have a problem honoring that danged guy.

I didn't care to get involved here. I don't like it here.

Well then see ya. There is the danged door, fella. You best better be hopping on it.

It has nothing to do with an honest living in the land to me. It is all about things far removed from that.

Well then good for you. That is just great that you get jollies from farming that are removed from making an honest living in the land. But you still don’t have a right to make a “living wage” at it. You only have a right to try. If you can do it, then my hat is off to you. You have a feather in your hat like the rest of us. If you cannot do it, then seek your jollies elsewhere.
