"I will put enmity
Between you and the woman,
And between your seed and her Seed;
He shall bruise your head,
And you shall bruise His heel."

Surely, you know better than this. This is God passing sentence upon the serpent and asserting the war between God's Kingdom and the devil. Up till then, the serpent and the woman spoke without enmity or hatred. However, NOW--God declares that the separation of the devil from redemption is forever complete and without revocation.

God also condemns the snake to crawl on his belly instead of walking around like Adam and Eve: "upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:". He is also to eat DUST instead of small rodents. Of course, serpents don't eat dust anymore--not since the Old Testament.

The sentencing of the woman comes in the next verse. God sentences her to be forever under the rule of her husband and to be subjected to his will. She is never to have equality.

Even today, I come across pious women who are disgusted when one of their gender have committed an independent thought or act. Another wonderful legacy of Genesis: Genesis--the word of God--not a fairy tale...

3:14
And the LORD God said unto the serpent, Because thou hast done this, thou art cursed above all cattle, and above every beast of the field; upon thy belly shalt thou go, and dust shalt thou eat all the days of thy life:

3:15
And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; it shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise his heel.

3:16
Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee.
