If it's not fun to join in the conversation, then people will stop writing. The problem comes in because (1) there is greed out there; (2) some take these chat sites (and themselves) too seriously and think that many people make investment decisions based on it. If the psychological makeup of a particular investor is that he/she doesn't want to hear contrary opinions, then this CCC (Courage, Certainty, Conviction) will likely extend beyond the chat lines to actual DD and real analysis that he's supposed to run occasionally on his portfolio, then nothing sort of painful lessons will correct that. I like William O'Neil's quote best : A stock doesn't know who we are, and it doesn't understand our dreams or aspirations. ...why would otherwise intelligent people take it personally... Greed and Fear and maturity at play again. More likely to affect someone who has a big chunk of his portfolio tied to one stock and believes that these chat sites can somehow affect the price. ...This works on both long and short sides btw... <g> I was like that a few years ago. There's always the ignore thing. If a person feels strongly about it, he/she should just put all contrary opinions on ignore. That way, he can read only all the reafirming positive opinions that will make him feel good. Which is not a bad idea.<g> I'm always curious what smart people think about a topic, and that's why I read this site, but I would never take a long or short position based on just what someone says. But I also think that if someone feels a need to read only positive news, then he should be able to ignore bilow or scumbria, or me, or you or anyone who has an contrarian view. SbH
