Hi Heinz,

re the 2500% is the INCREASE in total semi capacity over the past decade

I see you have emphasized the word INCREASE. I have been giving the matter some thought too. One 12 inch Fab is equivalent to 36/4 = 9 older 4 inch fabs with equivalent wafer starts. They are incredibly expensive to build too and there has been an aggressive campaign to add capacity over the last few years, always a sure sign we are in a downturn in semiconductor land.

Your post and others tell me I might be winning my bet with CB with regard to unemployment greater then 20% in the USA and DOW less then 5k.

All work for manufacturing goods will be done in China...and both Europe and the USA will import all necessary manufactured goods. I expect we will all be making a living playing the stock market, and/or happily working in service industries.....LOL

and pigs will fly of course -g-

Mind you, I do think that both Europe and the USA can compete with Asia in manufacturing once there is a desire to do it.

pearly.
