What's that cracking sound I hear? It's coming from the Republican side of the Senate chambers.

From a story today in the Denver Rocky Mountain News:

"... But Campbell (Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colorado, who, like Jeffords, switched parties) said he understands Jeffords' concerns about Bush, and said he, too, has reason to be unhappy with the president.

"I campaigned for George W. Bush and think the world of him, but this administration has not been real sensitive to the needs of individual senators in their individual states," Campbell said.

For example, on the campaign trail, Bush said in a speech before 13 tribal leaders that he would put $920 million into Indian school construction. Instead, his budget includes less than a tenth of that amount, said Campbell, the only American Indian in the Senate.

Campbell's advice for Bush: "Learn from your mistake and don't come to Washington thinking (senators) on the Hill are just little soldiers that come here to take orders from the White House."
