I can't see anything wrong with diversity of power sources. Nuclear provides 80% of France's power. They are a dirigiste society. Are they doomed? If so, it would likely happen to us if you had your way. Well, if they are, it may be no big loss.<g> I think we are capable of developing safe nuclear power within the realm of economic viability. Safety, it's an illusion in the absolute sense. You pay for the amount you think you need. Once again, I am not insisting of making choices for anyone but myself.

ZenWarrior,

In fact, the enrichment process is so electricity-intensive that when nuclear power plants were being built in this country in the 1950s, new coal-burning plants were also constructed for the sole purpose of powering the nuclear enrichment stations.

Using Geothermal, Wind and Solar Power, today we can enrich that Uranium without those coal burning plants. (Forget that part about the 1950's)

uranium mining results in groundwater pollution

Unlike drilling for oil, gas or mining coal.

Were it not for government subsidies, there wouldn't be one nuclear power plant in this country

That is true for Solar, Wind and Geothermal as well.
