I am trying to understand how Sandisk's Triflash embedded memory product will compete with SST's and M-systems' products. Can someone on this thread explain this or point me to resources which might compare the products.

I am interested because I believe SNDK's success in this new market will be valuable to its value proposition as the ASP of compact flash and MMC and SD continue to decline.

Ausdauer, what's your take on Motorola's Dragonball? Today's announcement cost us 5%. Do you think that it will hurt SNDK and CF in the long run?

Politico-Economic Commentary: IMHO, today's political events were the best thing since sliced bread. The markets love it when Republicans sit in the White House. And they love it when change is unlikely. When Bush alienated Jefford and drove the Senate into Democratic hands, he gave the markets reason to believe that we now have both goodies at the same time.

While rising tides usually lift all boats SNDK may be left underwater. Where Motorola goes so goes Nokia and the near-death of Napster has minimized the .MP3 marketplace. Digicams aren't selling as well as predicted. So, it looks like the killer apps that drive hardware sales aren't in SNDK's hands.

I once said that they would have to pull SNDK shares from my cold, dead hands. But my hands are very tired and I am still alive. Aus ... is it time to sell?

Craig

>>'987 isn't bullet-proof<<

One alternative to removable flash cards in general is the recently announced joint effort of AMD and M Systems (FLSH) to make high speed, high capacity embedded units. This seems to be an attractive alternative for Kodak. A camera containing this embedded memory would hold enough capacity so that the user would periodically transmit the images to online, host computer storage or to a personal computer. Once the transfer of images was complete, the embedded memory would be ready for more images. Note that many cameras are now coming out with a direct USB connection to a computer, an indication that there may be no need for removable flash cards. This seems to me a bigger threat than the availability of different brands and styles of removable memory, whether MemoryStick, SmartMedia, or CF.
