The ramp for DDR volumes won't occur until the P4 has DDR chipset support. But unless DDR is cheap at that time, that ramp could be delayed a good bit. Thus Micron's move.

Would anything would be different if Micron had waited to crash the pricing? It seems to me that they could have made some additional profits on whatever they sold now had they left the price higher. A lower price (and therefore lower profits) on DDR chips at this time isn't going to encourage anyone to build more. At this point, they're going to wait for the demand to occur before they start increasing production. I think Micron has left some cash on the table for no good reason.
