Mr. Goldfinger,

Damn, I loved that movie. Especially Miss Galore in the haystack.

If dyn is Dynegy, then yes they are using Ciena's stuff. Dynegy was one of Tellium's earliest customers. If I recall correctly, Dynegy received some sort of a kickback on the deal in the form of stock, options, technical advisory board etc.

When Dynegy picked up the Iaxis pieces after the bankruptcy, they also picked up the Ciena contract, equipment, and accounts payable. I believe Dynegy has extended the relationship with Ciena.

Many telcos multi source and have two or more qualified vendors. It would not be unusual for Dynegy, or anyone else for that matter, to use Tellium's switch as an optical cross connect, and Ciena's CoreDirector as an Add/Drop Multiplexer and edge aggregator. This may make technical sense as the Tellium switch has a higher port density than the current CoreDirector, and therefore may well serve as a more powerful solution as an optical cross connect. But the CoreDirector has edge aggregation capability that the Tellium switch lacks.

Most vendors would dearly love exclusive relationships, but it rarely happens. The bad news for Tellium is that their equipment, service, and execution will be closely compared to Ciena's. Best man wins.
