Tell me, JJ, would you say that the environment in the eastern half of the country is destroyed? It seems as though that is the fate predicted for the west if we continue forest management. Yet the environment in the east once resembled a moonscape in places owing to the Civil War and ignorant cut and run practices. What does it look like now?

My own answer is: It looks like productive land. In fact, the east has produced no less than three successive generations of forests since Jamestown and Plymouth Rock--EVEN THOUGH little if any professional management was part of that history. Yet the entire western forest is professionally managed and the environmentalists can't stand it. They declare that it will be destroyed. Not true, of course, and the evidence is right there in front of everybody's eyes. Right at home, where they live.
