Peter,“A quote: "Though Intel slashed prices of the P4 last month, it has not had any appreciable effect on sales of P4 motherboards, according to several manufacturers. A recent article claimed that ASUS and Gigabyte have ramped production of P4 boards, and production for i850 based boards exceeds that of DDR based boards. The implication is that demand has increased since the Intel price cuts, however other reports have indicated that ASUS increased production based upon forecasts vs. actual demand. Though not all results are back, a recent survey sent to motherboard makers has indicated P4 boards are still 1% or less of their total production."
“On the other hand, the report paints a fairly rousy picture for DRDRAM. “

These are inconsistent statements if you ask me since the P4 uses drdram exclusively. What is amazing is that there are so many reports that ddram has fallen on its face. Guess you can chalk another up for Intel and record another AMD blunder.

>Interestingly, the Dataquest report also indicated that part of the reason for the lower shipments was customers buying PCs instead of workstations. It would appear that x86 desktop processors are now powerful enough to satisfy the requirements of many workstation users, and it stands to reason this trend will likely continue this year with ever more powerful processors being released ...<

Could it be that AMD is getting some penetration into the corporate market after all? Perhaps the traditional workstation purchasers at the likes of Compaq, HP, and Gateway are replacing their workstations with Athlon based consumer PCs because these companies have failed to offer corporate PCs based upon Athlon.
