I am not sure what all the hoopla is over Natracor. The study as I understands it compares the effectiveness of the drug with Intravenous Nitroglycerine in the treatment of severe congestive heart failure ie pulmonary edema. In over 20 years of practice as an ER physician I have rarely used IV NTG or Nitroprusside to treat pulmonary edema. In the vast majority of cases the standard therapy consisting of oxygen, elevating the head, sublingual NTG, Nitropaste, Morphine sulfate, and Lasix in various combinations produces a cheap and effective response. Just to make sure that my experience reflects the standard of care I recently polled the other members of my group and my observations were felt to be accurate.
