Thanks for pointing out the potential change re stepped up basis. I hadn't seen this in any of the material presented thus far. Very important change for longer term planning.

You aren't kidding about the records-keeping nightmare of inheriting stocks if you must use the original basis. What on earth are those bozo's thinking... So based on that revelation (which I hadn't yet noticed) and the one about the estate tax pretty much remaining the same, the end result appears to me to mean that the effective estate tax has, in effect, gotten bigger, perhaps much bigger, when you add in the sometimes vastly increased capital gains paid by the beneficiaries.
