What the market makers are losing must be made up by others gaining. Investors for sure and maybe even daytraders with their quick fingers.
I wonder how the "islanders" or daytraders are doing with decimals.

System seems to be working well.

That's not what the article said. If you're going to mislead, then don't provide a link.

When I was an MM I didn't make any money on the spread. It's a zero sum game. I made money "catching". That is, when markets would go to extremes and there were no public bids or offers, in order to make the market continuous I did my job and provided an exit for the panicked public by filling in those continuity holes. Just about every time I did that, I was sure I was going get cleaned, and just about every time it ended up making good money. The market, the public, forced me to do what my knowledge and skill told me wasn't right, and that was how I made good money.
