Well, this might seem a weenie choice, but my favorite WWII movie is "Casablanca". After that, a French film, an update of "Les Miserables", complete with smuggled Jews and the French underground helping with the Normandy invasion. I like the others mentioned a lot, too. My favorite WWI movie is Jean Renoir's "The Grand Illusion". My favorite Vietnam War movie is "Full Metal Jacket". Korea: "MASH", of course. Quite possibly the greatest war movie of all, at this point, is "Glory", about the Civil War.

I am a very big fan of "The Winds of War" and "War and Remembrance"....

My favorite war movie of all time is "Gettysburg." I don't think the movie ever got the respect that it deserved. It's not going to make anyone's Top 100 list, but the Battle for Little Round Top was as nail-biting as anything I have ever seen on film. And an extra bonus for right-wing extremists ... Ted Turner takes a bullet as a reb colonel in Pickett's Charge.

Another classic is the 1937 Russian-made "Alexander Nevsky," which arguably boasts the finest film score (Prokofiev) ever written.
