Obviously nothing was preventing it before. That why the borders were closed in the first place. Because of the on-going violence and terrorism against Israel proper.Great points, the Palestinians are in the brink of desperation. Oh yes.. they are great points. First off, they indicate how badly off the Palestinians were under Jordanian and Egyptian rule. Something that younger Palestinians seem to have conveniently forgotten. They don't seem to understand that Israelis have cut them a FAR BETTER DEAL than their own corrupt leaders, or Arab "saviours" have inflicted upon them. Secondly, they are burning economic bridges that will be difficult to restore in the event that Arafat's strategy fails. They will suffer more under their despotic and corrupt leadership, than they did under the Israelis. And their supposed Arab "friends" will still treat them as pawns. Because, you see, Jordan doesn't want a Palestinian state any more than the Israelis. A Palestinian state would undermine Jordanian rule (because 60% of Jordan is Palestinian). Provided a power base on the West Bank, the next target would be undermine Jordan (with Iraqi assistance). So thus, it's not just Israel that has something to lose from a militant Palestinian entity emerging in their midst. Every Arab ruler wants them neutered and controllable so that don't undermine their own authority. Because if Kind Abdullah is ousted by the Palestinians of his own kingdom, it will set a nasty precedent for overthrowing every other monarchical regine in the region. Regimes that will likely be replaced with dictatorial regimes such as Saddam Hussein's. Hawk
