Spec Longs in Gold really so high?

Cash gold has slipped below $275 an ounce, but this level is far more significant for the June contract (which at $276.40 has yet to make a significant run). As we have argued before, a break could be nasty when considering that the latest CoT data puts speculative longs at a net 3.9 mln ounces, which according to Merrill Lynch is the largest since February 1996.
