Thank you PacBell for helping us kick the Internet habit! You know that those of us here in California are stressed out by the collapse of our beloved dot coms and all those out-of-work Banana Republicans, the complete absence of any state government, no electricity, and a national government endorsing the newest fast-food sensation "Spotted Owl Helper", so you decided to give all of us an early start on our 3-day weekend by taking down your DSL network for the whole state for the whole day. A few suggestions for doing this more effectively the next time: 1. It would be helpful to know that you are going to do this ahead of time. 2. Instead of your custormer service recordings saying "your call is very important to us, next available agent, yada yada", how about "We're down, we're out'a here, suggest you do the same" And finally, I want to thank you for your humorous website, not that we had any real chance to look at it today. I can't stop laughing when I read your reliability section. "To maximize throughput, we purposely overbuilt our network and partnered with one of the fastest* Internet backbone providers, IBM Global Services. Full network redundancy is provided through agreements with other backbone providers. We track and trend all routers and backbone provider circuits via network management tools and add additional capacity to the network well before it's needed. Although this may not be the cheapest way for us to do business, it ensures you get what you've paid for by avoiding the latency issues inherent in overdriving a network." I particularly like the Get What You Paid For part. You guys are a real hoot.
