Physical gold satisfies some other goals for me. It is a way to spend money and have something in my hands that isn't likely to lose too much value from here. The downside is limited IMO. Basically, it satisfies a shopping jones in me. And When I was a kid, I always wanted to own gold. I wanted to have my own river claim so that I could work it, panning for giant nuggets. Some kids dreamed of owning a baseball signed by henry aaron, I dreamed of gold nuggets. I have a lot more money tied up in NEM, which I own outright. As far as the options go, I don't know anywhere as much as Poet, but I would be looking to sell puts on the less hedged miners on pullbacks. I would be tempted to sell the front month puts on NEM right here and collect the time premium.
