John Palomino will be even faster in IPC than a T-bird, so the extrapolation won't be as useful.

How bout we compare this 1.8Ghz T-bird sys.com vs a 1.7Ghz P4

But meanwhile the c't laboratory found a way, which persuades the Athlon 4 (with Palomino core), itself as SSE able of outen. First measurements on a Notebook with the gigahertz version of the Athlon 4 furnished amazing results:

Explanations to bench mark:
3DMark: MadOnion 3DMark 2000, version 1.1, dissolution 800×600×16, optimization for Athlon or Pentium III
Apple male: Internal test routine; Result in MIS (mega iteration by second); high numbers mean better values. Without SSE the program P6-Befehle (PentiumPro) does not use, 3DNow!-Optimierung.
BAPCo PS5 and WME4: MadOnion BAPCo SYSMark 2000, dissolution 1024×768×16. The results of the single tests PS5 (Photoshop 5,5) and WME4 (Windows Media Encoder 4,0) are indicated.
Measured on Notebook prototype diagram integrated by FIC , 128 MByte memory, chip record VIA KN133 with.

The 3DMark-Wert hardly rises, since the diagram output brakes the processor. The 3DMark-CPU-Werte emphasizes the processor somewhat more, but the diagram of the KN Chipsatzes brakes also here. The apple male calculation shows, how enormously on SSE handoptimized programs without 3DNow!-Unterstuetzung profit. The Photoshop individual value of the SysMark bench mark shows that obviously some the filter make substantial use of SSE instruction. The result of the Windows Media Encoders surprises a little. Possibly the Encoder has already 3DNow!-optimierte routines, which use the Athlon 4 better than the SSE emulation.
