I was talking about the 100% of the Palestinians in the occupied territories. Besides, that 20% also decided they had enough when they rioted a few months ago, but then again, they do have decent jobs able to feed their families and they had to get back to work. >The Israelis have never shown any desire to wipe out the Palestinians. They certainly didn't put it in their constitution that they sought the destruction of the Palestinians. Unfortunately, the Palestinians included this in their very charter of organization. LETTER FROM YASSER ARAFAT TO PRIME MINISTER RABIN: September 9, 1993 Mr. Prime Minister, The signing of the Declaration of Principles marks a new era in the history of the Middle East. In firm conviction thereof, I would like to confirm the following PLO commitments: The PLO recognizes the right of the State of Israel to exist in peace and security. The PLO accepts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338. The PLO commits itself to the Middle East peace process, and to a peaceful resolution of the conflict between the two sides and declares that all outstanding issues relating to permanent status will be resolved through negotiations. [the recent violence is a direct cause of Israel's dishonest attempts to keep negotiating all outstanding issues to death] The PLO considers that the signing of the Declaration of Principles constitutes a historic event, inaugurating a new epoch of peaceful coexistence, free from violence and all other acts which endanger peace and stability. Accordingly, the PLO renounces the use of terrorism and other acts of violence and will assume responsibility over all PLO elements and personnel in order to assure their compliance, prevent violations and discipline violators In view of the pormise of a new era and the signing of the Declaration of Principles and based on Palestinian acceptance of Security Council Resolutions 242 and 338, the PLO affirms that those articles of the Palestinian Covenant which deny Israel's right to exist, and the provisions of the Covenant which are inconsistent with the commitments of this letter are now inoperative and no longer valid . Consequently, the PLO undertakes to submit to the Palestinian National Council for formal approval the necessary changes in regard to the Palestinian Covenant. Sincerely, Yasser Arafat Chairman The Palestine Liberation Organization ------------Oslo------------- >And Arafat has NEVER truly been willing to sign a peace treaty. He always tries to add something at the end which falls outside of the original framework. I respectfully disagree. --------Oslo---------- 2. Permanent status negotiations will commence as soon as possible, but not later than the beginning of the third year of the interim period, between the Government of Israel and the Palestinian people representatives. ------------- --------Wye River----------- IV. PERMANENT STATUS NEGOTIATIONS The two sides will immediately resume permanent status negotiations on an accelerated basis and will make a determined effort to achieve the mutual goal of reaching an agreement by May 4, 1999. The negotiations will be continuous and without interruption. The United States has expressed its willingness to facilitate these negotiations. --------------------- From the day Rabin got the bullet, the peace process is a complete joke. Bibi violated the Oslo agreement, Barak tried to patch it up by giving Arafat some bones (I am sure lots of people think he did not even deserve such bones), and Sharon (excuse me, but I still think Sharon as a butcher) is doing what he knows what to do, which is attack first, ask questions later ( I still remember the guy visiting the site knowing fully well how it would be perceived by the Palestinians and then a journalist asks him why are you here, and he replies: " I come here in the name of peace"....and he is supposed to negotiate his country's future?) In the meantime, misery goes on. But I sure enjoyed our dinner tonight, we went to a new Vietnamese restaurant<g>
