>> On second thought, you couldn't live there because I think being a vegetarian is a requirement. <g> <<

That's why I was confused. I think of vegetarians in CA, and I think their diet and especially vegan diets are poor ways of eating. That doesn't sound like me.

>> I never knew that sugar was an addictive substance <<

Eating lots of sugar or carbohydrate (especially by itself) generates a fast and large rise in blood glucose and hence a large insulin response. The insulin rushes to take the glucose out of your blood and within a couple of hours your blood sugar level can be as much as 50% lower than if you had fasted! This low blood sugar makes you feel lethargic and hungry and more than likely you go find more sugar to munch on. If you eat a high protein and fat meal you get a more gradual and lower insulin response and wouldn't feel the urge to eat a couple of hours later.

>> I agree Americans eat too much sugar....but I'm not sure that sugar is addictive <<

Well I could find some website with some doctor that makes a case for behavioral and chemical addiction with sugar, but like everything esle in this world you could find just as many people who disagree. So I won't try and convince you. I hope we both agree that sugar isn't good for you and has no nutritional value, and that should be enough. By the way why don't you do a search on the web with the terms sugar, addiction, chemical, behavioral, etc I'm sure you will find hundreds or thousands of sites.

>> Some of your statement, such as "there are no pathogens that cause heart "disease". There is poor diet and laziness to blame." just made me LOL. So....you think that all heart disease can be blamed on poor diet and laziness?!? <<

Yes! We didn't used to have heart disease until our eating patterns changed and until we became a sedentary populace.

>> One of my doubles tennis partners has had significant heart problems. She is not lazy, actively exercises, and isn't an ounce overweight <<

Being overweight doesn't cause heart disease.

>> Her diet is...and always has been excellent <<

Maybe your definition of an excellent diet is quite different from mine! The standard diet prescribed by the AMA, USDA, AHA, FDA etc. are all wrong. Maybe she has been misled about the proper way to eat healthy.

>> I have high cholesterol ...and I would consider my diet to be excellent, I actively exercise, and I know I'm not lazy!!! <<

I never said anything about high cholesterol. I was speaking about coronary heart "disease". Furthermore high cholesterol is not the best predictor of heart attacks. I said ti before and I will repeat. The ratio of your "good" cholesterol to your "bad" cholesterol is far more important as a predictor to heart disease than the total cholesterol number. BUT even cholesterol by itself is not the best predictor of heart disease. Triglycerides and more importantly triglycerides divided by your HDL (good) cholesterol is the best predictor of an impending heart attack.

>> ...and I would consider my diet to be excellent <<

You don't have to tell me if you don't want to and I won't attack your diet if you do, but what does your diet consist of? Perhaps our notions of a good diet are diametrically opposed.

>> It really isn't always just that simple! <<

Why isn't it? What are our 3 biggest health problems in America today?

1) Heart disease
2) Diabetes
3) Cancer

The first two can be eliminated entirely through proper diet & exercise and the third can be reduced significantly through proper diet & exercise.

>> I was also kidding you.... <<

I didn't take anything personally, and I was not offended or upset. I just didn't understand why you would lump me in with Californians where all those goofball vegetarians live. I figure you would have picked some place like Texas.

>> since your statements are so adamant <<

That's because I believe I'm right. I am open to other opinions, but I like to get my point across without a lot of ambiguity.
