Hi Geoff, I detect a note of sarcasm to your post, Geoff. Could it be that you simply need to take a hint graciously? We putzes of the world who can't afford or aren't among the elite who live on private or institutional intranets are a threatened species. Why? We upstarts are viewed by those in control of things as a major annoyance. Far too demanding, and freeloaders to boot. Heck, if your DSL service were to really pay the dividends to SBC shareholders it ought to, you'd be paying over $100/mo. for a little sip at a squeezed-tight ADSL straw. How could we be so audacious as to presume that a government/private network such as the Internet ought to be available on any but the most desultory schedule except to the elite? What hubris on the part of the public. How dare we? Did anyone actually say that the Internet is a public utility? No. It is not. Get used to it. And puleeze quit whining about the lack of customer service. Sheesh, as if the customer were there for the benefit of the Service Provider. You really have things reversed in your mind. Much as the rest of the citizens of the great state of California do regarding electrical power. Which is a luxury provided only for the convenience of the blue-eyed sheiks of Houston and Tulsa. What in the world are Californians thinking when they say that electricity or access to the Internet ought to be considered essential 24/7 utilities? Poppycock. Not in the eyes of those controlling and provisioning these services. You really do need to work on that attitude. I suggest a long weekend in a sweltering feedlot in the Central Valley for you. [[Aside: Geoff - Hope you realize that aside from the bitterness of the above blather, it was tongue-in-cheek and meant only for entertainment purposes.]] On a separate note, perhaps it is a good thing that your Internet connection was down for a day. C.E.R.T. at Carnegie-Mellon was down this week for 30 hours due to a "denial of service" attack. At least when you're down, the bad guys on the Net can't attack you! See, I'm ever the optimist.
