This is my take. Ciena said it, but so far they haven't seen the need. I think ONI and Avici are in the same good position. Avici was backlogged and had to skip a trial. I think ONI is operating flat out.

CNBC keeps beating this drum that telecom equipment spending is shrinking. That is absolutely true.

But it's about technology turnover. Spending for expensive circuit-based equipment is down to maintanance levels, and the capacity additions are IP.

Demand for bandwidth continues to grow very rapidly. That need has to be metand is being met by the next-generation players. Lucent and Nortel the two big legacy players are seeing their huge circuit-based business dry up. So sure. Spending is down. But who cares!

IMO, some more results from Ciena, ONI, Sonus, Juniper and Avici, and the Street will get it. They're all gaining share.
