Corn Flakes

here is a bit of war trivia for you. bet ya never heard this one before.

secret codes are used regularly in transmitting information between military units...much work has been done since WWII to get all services in the same operational area on the same code everyday.

in combat, some SF recon or combat patrols may be out too long and not get the changes...if they needed an air strike, an unoffocial (but closely kept internal secret) shackle code known as the cereal shackle was used to transmit the patrol's location to the forward air controller.

the patrol leader would tell the FAC pilot...cereal shackle and recite a list of 6 or 8 letters. corn flakes was the code breaker with each letter representing one number. the series of numbers were the patrol's map coordinate location.
6 letters gave the location within 100 meters...8 within 10 meters.

a second shackle called the mike foxtrot shackle was also used...i will let you figure out the code breaker for that one.
