No Prose Joel, but I did have this weird thought going through my mind as I read Veneroso's report. This image is somewhat farcical and I should add that weird thoughts have one place in brain and other places in brain have respect and sympathy for those who have been hurt by manoevers, manipulation whatever you want to call it be it legal or not Russ, especially in SA they have been hurt and needed the grief least in their struggle for freedom and advancement since the end of aparteid.

Anyway as I was reading the report I kept thinking about how long it was as I looked at my scrollbar and I knew what the ending was (that the emperor had no clothes), but a good read nonetheless and you want to find those kernels of knowledge, those keys that unlock other areas of your brain, those nuggets (pun intended) of wisdom. I remember vaguely on TV a couple of decades or so ago the Heraldo Rivera started out by pulling stunts to detect fraud or treasure or something, but he is the lead character in the scenario and he steps up to the plate for GATA and the oppressed and as his usual grandstanding manner instead of a lowly court in Boston, takes his case to the Hague and gets and injunction to open and transmit over all available media the Vault where all the gold is stored. Of course Heraldo is stunned by what he sees, a bare table and two chairs with two old naked guys sitting with one American eagle and one Canadian maple (the only gold in the vault) pitching them back and forth. Of course these two old guys are Goldman and Sachs.

Sorry if this image offends anyone, now on to read Russ' post by Pollit.

Regards

Bob

"... are other things happening, which I am not at liberty to discuss..."

Joel,

Your inquisitive post yesterday was for me a fresh approach
to the cold dark murky waters where gold prices are made.

Before i append tooting bill's e-mail for the reference made above
that he for the zillion'th time has secret bomb-shelling info that
he can not disclose at this time, i wonder when he will disclose
those zillion-1 secret bomb-shelling info of past that he were not able
to disclose back in these 2 years gone past.

Yes, what i just wrote was a sort of Dumbing-Down of gata bill,
but i am one to "Let it all Hang Out" and not to proclaim future events
will be of a mind-bogging historic event greater than Watergate etc
when the Gata story unflows. Just my conditioning that even if it is true
that for example all the physical gold of usa fort knox was gone missing,
that rather than chaos & doom & gloom to abound unchecked,
that it would not be in the interest of the citizens of the usa to take
matters in their own hands and jail + punish all government leaders
associated with the bad deed since the "medicine" will be worst than
the sickness. Something like keeping that bad fellow gata has identified
in the clinSin administration that was very involved in the treasury
or what ever department it was, to keep him on-board on the job
since he knows the inside-out of the criminal(in spirit anyway) acts
he helped create, meaning he can help undo them. etc. Seems that
the usa has a long history of letting bad folks off if they agree to
pay a fine or help undo things while admitting "no wrong doing."

ok, i 4get what i was trying to say. Something about gata bill using
his football methods to get the trooops hyped up. Not my style.
If i think we can not win the game then i say lets hurt the other side
as much as possible before they win, not the un-reality. But then
that young lady in Fox's BootCamp versus Mr. Wolf was down in score
1 to 6 and needed to win all remaining 6 votes, and she did. Amazed i was.

Just a quick note where another poster mentioned the folly of gata
to bring the Big Boys of the usa government to trial in Boston.
Well something about the studif thoughts of private citizens to
topple or crush "their" governemnt. Seems my poor history reminds
me that a few of these private citizens near Boston did do something
like that towards their government in England. Yes?

As for the folly of the Howe lawsuit that Gata supports,
to me its folly for anyone to tell us the future and extra
folly to speak as if politicians are untouch'able and extra
eXtra folly to imply politicians are good examples using
the present and past for examples.

But then i'm really confused(not really) with Ken's naive'ness.

Sad to see a person pee onto self when they turn around
and face a strong wind of truth.

Le Metropole Members,

The White House responds to GATA again!

The following letter came in the mail today:

THE WHITE HOUSE

May 30, 2001

Dear Mr. Murphy:

Thank you for taking the time to write me about your concerns.

As you have mentioned in your letter, the issue you raise
is now the subject of litigation. Therefore, it would be
inappropriate for me to make any comment on the matter.

Sincerely

(signed Larry Lindsey)
Lawrence B. Lindsey
Assistant to the President for Economic Policy

I have now received more correspondence...
... from The White House than from all
the gold producers put together. Amazing!

The fact that Lawrence Lindsey is responding to GATA
means that this issue is on the "hot burner."

There are other things happening, which I am not at liberty
to discuss, that also suggest that GATA has the attention
of The White House. We are now fairly confident that the
GATA African Gold Summit has worked to such an extent
that the Bush Administration is already feeling some heat from Africa.

As the media attention for Reg Howe's Complaint and GATA's
allegations builds, so will the pressure on The White House
to end the gold fraud. The price of gold is going to soar.

CHAIRMAN

Banking crisis grips Uruguay

The peso's value is falling and the economy shrinking

Uruguay has closed all of its banks, as the country's economic crisis tightens its stranglehold.
The Central Bank announced that it had suspended all banking operations, in an eerie echo of similar moves that took place in neighbouring Argentina.

In Argentina's case the move was seen as the only practical solution to prevent a run on the banks after consumers lost confidence.

The exact reason for Uruguay's closure of the banks was not given, as Central Bank officials met to discuss the crisis.

It was also unclear as to when the banks would re-open.

In response to the measure, the Uruguayan peso lost almost 23% of its value on Tuesday.

Panic at the banks

In recent weeks, there has been a massive amount of withdrawals from Uruguayan banks.

Uruguayans fear becoming the next Argentina

This has taken about 33% of deposits out of the country's financial system during the first six months of the year, according to official figures.

The problem has been exacerbated by mass withdrawals of cash by Argentines from their Uruguayan bank accounts.

The launch of an investigation into the capital flight prompted a second wave of panic withdrawals, this time by the Uruguayan people.

Currency dive

Uruguay floated its currency late last month following a run on banks and a plunge in foreign reserves.

New Economy Minister Alejandro Atchugarry faces a tough task

This was in part due to the knock-on effects of financial problems in Argentina and Brazil.

International reserves at Uruguay's Central Bank have fallen 76.6% since January.

After exchange rate controls were abandoned, the value of the Uruguayan peso fell about 30%.

Following its latest dive on Tuesday, a US dollar would now buy 35 pesos.

Economic crisis

The country's economy, which has experienced a three-year recession, relies on agriculture, tourism and banking.

An even deeper recession in Argentina has intensified fears that Uruguay could also face a sustained downturn.

Earlier this month, Uruguay's President Jorge Batlle appointed Alejandro Atchugarry as the country's new economy minister.

His predecessor, Alberto Bension, resigned on after losing support for his programme of austerity measures.

Earlier this year the economy shrank by 10% in three months, as the effects of the Argentine crisis were felt across South America.
