The general has more brawn than brains and should look for a magic wand to get anything out of the Indians. O yea, he is visiting his ancestral home. Everything is getting spruced up for his visit. Kashmir problem will not be solved as the Punkistan Govt wants, simply because India has to worry equally about rabid Hidutva movement which wants to Indianize the minorities - an euphemism for "hinduaization". Vajpayee will not be able to contain the Hindutva elements, if Kashmir problem is solved along the lines that pakistan wants. The Indian Govt will fall if Kashmir problem is "solved". A status quo offers more stability than any solution. A recurrence of nightmare of vivisection of India is a possibility if a status quo is altered.. A prosperous Pakistan is good for India, South Asia, and the world, and that could be accomplished if Punkistan keeps the Kashmir in the back burner. -JPR dawn.com Mr Blackwill, expressed concern about Pakistan's "domestic stability" and said that American preoccupation with India should not obscure the fact that for the next five years, developments in Pakistan are likely to have a greater impact on allied national interests than those in India". Mr Blackwill thinks that "Pakistan today is on the edge of fulfilling the classic definition of a failed state. Its very survival as a nation is in question". He believes that the current policies "that seek to isolate Pakistan and treat it as a pariah because of this problems in democratic governance could help to produce a catastrophe in South Asia and the region". One wonders if this and similar other appraisals of the situation in Pakistan by some noted Americans also played a role in the sudden shift in India's policy and this decision to invite General Musharraf over for talks. the new Indo-US equation would enable Washington to encourage New Delhi and Islamabad to find "a just and peaceful solution to the problem of Kashmir". Given the experience of the past fifty years, Pakistan would welcome any US help in finding a solution to the seemingly intractable problem.
