Sudan a view from Iran

Ayatollah Rafsanjani receives Sudanese outgoing ambassador
Tehran, May 26, Chairman of the Expediency Council Ayatollah
Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani said on Saturday that the Sudanese campaign
against colonialism had similarity with the Islamic Revolution of
Iran.

In a meeting with Sudanese outgoing Ambassador to Iran Mohammad
al-Shafie, Ayatollah Rafsanjani said that the Iranian nation is
concerned about hearing reports of certain divisive moves in Sudan.
He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran is keen on fostering
friendly relations with the Islamic and developing nations.

Ayatollah Rafsanjani expressed regret over the current crisis in
Sudan and said that the difficulty in Sudan appeases only the foreign
enemies of the Sudanese nations.

He called for cooperation and solidarity of the Sudanese officials
to help resolve the crisis and boost strength of the Sudanese
government and hoped that the government would manage to restore
law and order with patience and vigilance.
The Sudanese outgoing ambassador thanked Ayatollah Rafsanjani for
his special attention to Sudan and his contribution to boosting
Tehran-Khartoum relations.

Al-Shafie said that the Sudanese government has taken measures to
restore calm in the country soon.
Sudan was ruled as an Anglo-Egyptian condominium from 1899 until
achieving independence as a parliamentary republic on January 1,
1956.
