Human existence is comprised of two things, society and culture. Society is a fast flowing stream and culture a lazy flowing river. Both are related and they influence each other even though they don't know it. The stream might dry up for awhile but the river always flows. The river swells but as long as it moves to the sea everything is fine.

A society that tries to impose good or bad on it's citizens is doomed to failure. The failure begins and ends with the imposition. Each heart must find it's own direction based on free will and the data at hand.

The Trees

There is unrest in the forest,
There is trouble with the tress,
For the maples want more sunlight
and the oaks ignore their pleas.

The trouble with the maples,
(And they're quite convinced they're right)
They say the oaks just too lofty
And they grab up all the light.
But the oaks can't help their feelings
If they like the way they're made.
And wonder why the maples
Can't be happy in their shade.

So the maples formed a union
And demanded equal rights.
"These oaks are just too greedy;
We will make them give us light."
Now there's no more oak oppression,
For they passed a noble law,
And the trees are all kept equal
By hatchet, axe and saw.
