Really good analytical chemists are harder to find than really good synthetic chemists, actually. Most are just too busy to attend conferences!

Re: your discussion on Argonaut with Voodoo -- I tend to agree with most of his comments. IMO, the stuff seems well-built, though not as flexible as one could want. They have a really cool multiple-reactor hydrogenation unit, priced around $60K. But (and it's a big but), their stuff is fairly expensive and not quick to catch on with bench chemists. Management doesn't like to see $40K dust-catchers in the back of hoods. There are simply too many reactions one can set up in 20 vials that cost 20-cents each and throw away at the end, with no learning curve for instrumentation.

On the plus side, their customer support is excellent and they have hired chemists to pitch the stuff and try to find new applications for their gear. If it does start to catch on, they should do very well.
