The adaptation and survival of the fittest is an observable phenomenon. Most countries where Islam is the predominate religion tend to down play the theory of evolution. Muslims definitely believe God created the universe. There are clear cut descriptors of the creatures. We believe in invisible creatures (Angels and Jinn). We believe there is a Garden of Eden but that it is not on the Earth. We believe Adam and Eve were the first humans and that we come from this seed. Lots of things can be extracted from the Quran out of context. I encourage you to seek knowledge and truth where ever you can find it. But be careful of the out of context thing. If something is reported to have been found in Islamic documents by some one who is not a Muslim, I would find the information highly suspect.

Mulsims were developing highly advanced universities of Math, Science, Language, art, culture, and phylosophy during the period marked as the dark ages for the West. Unfortunately for us all, the Muslim world entered their own dark age period for a while once the Renaisance of the Western cultures began.

Bottom line: I would never characterize Islam as supporting the theory of evolution against Creation. There is however the potential to have one explained in a common sense way by the other.
