As I said, I am not so much interested in arguing the matter as noting a quite different viewpoint on the subject. As for "pleasers", that does not seem to me to have much to do with it. In the same way that one wants to write a sonnet to a beautiful woman, or immortalize heroism in epic poetry, or paint a beautiful landscape, there is a natural instinct of reverence that celebrates things that are wonderful. If God is the most wonderful thing of all.....well, no need to belabor the point. I think listening to Bach is an excellent habit. Try The St. Matthews Passion.......
