Mr. Berlin says that this idea is not only objectionable, but inconceivable. No, sorry; you're on a different page. I don't have any idea what the ground of consciousness is, or where the human race is headed. I believe that there is stupid, and that there is less stupid--and that less stupid is not only less stupid, but better. In reading history, I have always admired and identified with reasonable, courageous, and compassionate men and women. Unfortunately, they usually had little POWER over others (they had no reason to value it), and they were often being murdererd by some misfit freaks in ugly symbolic clothing over ritualized coals, or perhaps a rack. So yes, I believe that superstition and the supernatural are much closer to the law of the jungle than are mathematics and reason. And the law of the jungle is not easily embraced by people whom have a feeling for this precious opportunity of LIFE. Most humans could not survive in the jungle now. Why should we keep in our hearts and minds that which is inimical to our better and more evolved Nature? It has nothing to do with UTOPIA. It has everything to do with my desire for society to value reason, human dignity, and individual worth. I don't mind discussing academic God(s)--but applied God(s), from the imaginations of power wielding priests, is a curriculum that gets a big BLOODY F from the court of history. Berlin was making comments such as absolute freedom would involve the ability of the strong to destroy others. DUH? Who past the age of ten years old would consider "absolute" freedom to hurt others as the major bar to Utopia. I mean, how many years of pondering did it take him to decide that absolute freedom was not compatible with the human journey? Thus did I ask you for your point. Like I have time for that? Is business so good?
