Just for the Hell of it, why don't you give us a breakdown on the number of non
religious communities which you have compared to the religious
communities? Is it still so very common for those without otherwordly ideals to
retreat to the Garden of Eden?! Personally, I suspect that most rational
people have little interest in living in communities isolated from the larger
picture. I don't.

I thought you'd never ask!

Actually, you would be astonished at the number of rational people who are very interested in living in communitites intentionally isolated in significant ways from the larger picture. You could start with this very incomplete list:

ic.org

Notice the number that are forming. This is a living movement.

Each seeks varying degrees of isolation from the wider community. Some are just living communities whose members tend to have jobs in the "outside world" but return to the communities for their living values. Others try to be self-sufficient and as isolated as they can be.

I gather you're not particularly intersted in the real facts about this, either, though, so I'll just post this for the people who might be.
