Re: "vendors seriously into the visualization market would be running a big risk by not offering an Athlon 4 based workstation. Remember, the users of workstations don't buy into all the raw MHz bull. "
You are absolutely correct.
They buy in to the stability and long term reliability of the platforms - and to date, Compaq, HP, IBM, Dell, Gateway, NEC, etc. have been providing DUAL Intel Pentium II and III workstations - and now have new Dual XEON workstations to offer.
And on Tuesday, Intel will be offering the FASTEST FPU processor in the ITanium - and well established OEMs (can you guess a few) will be offering 2-way and 4-way SMP Itanium systems.
And guess what software will be running on these ?
Yep !!!
3D STudio Max !!!
"In addition, Discreet(TM), a division of Autodesk and a leader in digital content creation, last January was the first to demonstrate native 3D modeling and animation on the Itanium processor with its 3d studio max® software."
Of course, The AthWiper will have a PRICE advantage !
