dale_leroy,

. If SUN can use Hammer to continue to dominate in the growing UNIX market while Itanium struggles to get its footing, this could very well prevent SUN from sliding into the abyss as Itanium kills off Xeon.

They can't and they won't. Nobody writes applications for Sun x86 Solaris. Hammer is a low end chip compared to Sparc, why would they waste their time with it at all.

Dale,

But UNIX is gaining market share, not losing market share.

Actually, Sun is gaining market share at the expense of IBM and HP - the total pie is not growing much at all.
