Hi Cobalt,

re: one of you're links
' that Allah ta`aalaa may forgive killing of a hundred people, but has promised not to forgive taking anyone as a partner to Him.'
and your statement,
'In fairness, evangelical Christians also strive to convert "unbelievers", historically at swordpoint or at gunpoint'

I've had this very doctrine espoused to me in numerous discussions with Born Again Christians.
It's very scary.

Only difference is fundamentalist Christians no longer control any state. Separation of church and state ( a good and necessary thing) in the Muslim world seems to be going in reverse.

Disclusure: I'm a free thinking (IMO), Church going non dogmatic Christian (a contradiction LOL).

A folksy type singer/songwriter from the late 60's early 70's, Cat Stevens, provided much beautiful music to the world and was typically quite spiritual and thought provoking in nature, with themes of peace, love and self discovery. His self discovery led to conversion to Islam. When Salmon Rushdee (I make no commentary on Rushdee's writings as I have not read them) was placed on an the 'assasination list' the then converted Cat Stevens is on public record as condoning the actions of proponents of this action.

'Now I've been crying lately, thinking about the world as it is
Why must we go on hating, why can't we live in bliss '
Peace Train by Cat Stevens

'In my opinion, the real wild card in geopolitics in Asia is the Turkic people of central Asia.'
Last time these folks got together... wasn't that a party.
And weren't they also a very large contingent in the 'Mongol Army' that stormed Asia and Eastern Europe ?.

------

regards
Kastel

>>Akira Kurosawa is my favorite director of all time. << among my top 10. With Rashomon - guess what - #1. Have you seen Misoguchi? Ugetsu?

>>When I read the research coming out of Japan and Taiwan, it just blows me away. << Is that not exactly the same thing as somewhat late realization in Europe about Cordoba Califate? Or about algebra and trigonometry from Syria. "The earth is not at the centre of universe and neither are you".

The same year Isabella of Spain took Alhambra, some guy from Genova by the name of C. Colombo was getting ready to sail out of a small port west of Cadiz. No end to the drive... Beautiful short story to this subject by Salman Rushdie.
