Pat, Re: I think AMD peaked at 55% of the retail mobile market based on a value reported on 06/01/00.

One think that is often overlooked here is the fact that Intel and AMD had similar infrastructure at that time. This was a big advantage for AMD because the OEMs didn't have to test and verify a completely new architecture when building K6 notebooks.

Today the situation has changed. Except NEC and Sony (they had the old mobile Duron notebooks earlier this year) every OEM had to verify a completely new laptop architecture. This takes both time and resources and that's IMO why momentum is building so slowly this time. That's also why I think that AMD should be much more aggressive in pricing the mobile parts. Only if the OEMs see a competitive advantage (price, power consumption or to a lesser extend performance), they will offer Athlon notebooks. Otherwise it's just too easy for them to use the established Intel architecture.
