I am glad you liked my response.
I am extremely sensitive to the beliefs of others.
I have a Jehova's Witness in my class- he can't participate in any holiday celebrations, or birthday parties, nor can he say the pledge of allegiance. So I have talked to his mom a lot and found ways to make him comfortable (and make his mother comfortable) while at the same time allowing the rest of the kids to have their celebrations. The solution is as simple as letting this student go in the library area of our class and read during parties- he can have party food in there, if he wants it, but his mother just doesn't want him actively celebrating Holidays and birthdays.

It's probably much easier for me to be non-intrusive, since I hold no belief that requires me to proselytize to save my soul. That's a big asset for a teacher who has to deal with children from all religions.
