Via's South Bridge shaky route for data?

If the PCI bus gets hammered

By Mike Magee, 14 April 2001 07.55 BST

VIA HARDWARE says it has a preliminary fix to a problem with Via's Southbridge. This may avoid a damaging recall for Via Technologies. The site, which you can find here, cautions it is a beta fix.

Given that Via is a pretty big company, we'd have thought maybe Via would have got round to the fix before the hardware site that covers its technologies.

Earlier this week, reports on German web sites claimed that problems with the Via South Bridge 686B can damage data when the PCI bus is being hammered and that gets worse when both of the IDE ports are used.
