Hi CB, yes, like I kept trying to inform this thread, the golden goose is big. Geopolitical-speaking, for the US to “save” Taiwan, it will need to terminate Taiwan democracy. Alternatively, it is perhaps more fruitful to encourage democracy in China.

The Taiwanese are now the largest single investor in China, before them, the Southeast Asian Chinese, HK and Macao folks, before them (pre-1989), the multinationals, and before them, Hong Kong. Cumulatively, the offshore Chinese accounts for probably 80% of all foreign direct investment in China since 1978.

China is lucky to have the Diaspora willing to invest in the land of origin, after so many generations. Before this time, it was lucky to have the Diaspora willing to risk their lives to lead, organize and overthrow the last Imperial dynasty. Before this time, China was unlucky to have to seen the forced migration of what ended up being the Diaspora. In this way, China and Israel are very much alike, and thus the nick name for overseas Chinese, the Jews of the East.
