The "embedded market" is much too large for any single solution to dominate. I expect Linux to do well in the "application server" space where what you have is really a full-function computer in a sealed black box. While this is an important and growing market it by no means dominates the embedded space. Linux isn't likely to be controlling your car anytime soon in any form, to use just one example. Nor will it be shoehorned into your cellphone.

It seems clear that the reason WIND bought BSD was the Linux threat in the high-end embedded space. We'll have to see how this plays out but outside of this end of the embedded market I don't see Linux being much of a threat to WIND.
