TOKYO (Reuters) - As struggling U.S. dot-coms look overseas for fresh sources of revenue, Japan has emerged as a favorite destination thanks to its relatively early stage of growth for Web-based enterprises and Internet commerce.

Despite the Japanese economy's decade-long slump, companies making a mark on this side of the Pacific say business is brisk because demand for basic technology is still strong.

Basis Technology Corp, a privately-held software technology firm, more than doubled its sales last year as Net firms used its services to move into the Japanese market.

Niche players like Basis Technology and Uniscape Inc, which develops technology that keeps multilingual Web site content up-to-date, say the outlook for their businesses is strong.

Top Web retailer Amazon.com Inc turned to Basis Technology last year to launch its Japanese-language site, and also became an investor in the company.
